We are
there for you

The Kolpinghaus is made up of many people who have set themselves the goal of creating a "temporary home where young people can feel at home". In addition to the current 17 full-time employees, many volunteers from the Kolping Familie Graz and the Kolping Jugend Graz are needed to make this vision a success. All these helping hands are united by the vision of Adolph Kolping.

Chess club

In addition to the Kolping Familie Graz and the Kolping Jugend Graz, the Kolpinghaus Graz is also home to a third club, our chess club.

Adolph Kolping

Adolph Kolping (1813-1865) is the founding father of all Kolping institutions and is very much present in our Kolpinghaus. Partly figuratively, but above all through his ideas and approaches.

He came from a modest background and began his career as a journeyman shoemaker. For ten years, he shared the often difficult living conditions of the journeymen and then decided to study theology to become a priest.

In 1849, he founded a Catholic journeymen's association to offer journeymen, i.e. marginalized young people, a temporary home and prospects for coping with life. His idea quickly spread throughout Germany and Austria. The houses of Kolping were a place of community and education in the sense of political, social, and religious education. In his thoughts and actions, Adolph Kolping was a pioneer of the basic principles of Christian social teaching and is a role model for our work today. His social doctrine is based on four fundamental pillars: Family, society, work, and religion.
